Coach Tony Martin is set to begin his 20th year coaching basketball and his third season as Varsity Head Coach at The John Carroll School. In his first two seasons at the helm at JC, Coach Martin’s Patriots have won 43 games and last year’s team set the school record for wins in a season with 28. Previously, as head coach at Archbishop Spalding, he took the Cavaliers program from obscurity to national prominence in just three years. He also coached four years each at Baltimore Catholic League powerhouses Mount St. Joseph and Cardinal Gibbons. At Mount St. Joseph , Coach Martin served as the right-hand man to Pat Clatchey, laying the foundation that helped MSJ become a nationally ranked program in 2005-06. At Cardinal Gibbons, Coach Martin cut his teeth under the legendary Ray Mullis, the all-time winningest coach in Baltimore City with 621 wins. Coach Martin's own winning percentage over 12 years as a head coach in high school at all levels (Varsity, JV and FS) is over 71%, including 7 league and 9 tournament championships. In addition, Coach Martin has been named Baltimore Metro and Anne Arundel County Coach of the Year by the Baltimore Sun. During the past two decades, he has been involved in numerous camps, summer leagues, and All-Star games, including nationally renowned Nike All-America and Five-Star Basketball Camp and been on staff with the Capital City Classic All-Star Game. Over forty former players associated with Coach Martin have gone on to continue their education and basketball careers in college, including the placement of student-athletes in the ACC and Big East. Coach Martin has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland - College Park . He and his wife Nancy have two children, Jordan and Anna.
Coach Anthony Macri is an assistant with the Varsity and Head Junior Varsity Coach at John Carroll. He is an individual skills specialist who oversees the Patriot player development program as well. Coach Macri also serves as Director of Basketball Operations at JC and as the liaison between the program and the collegiate coaching staffs who actively recruit John Carroll student-athletes. A true student of the game, Coach Macri is constantly reviewing resources to stay on the cutting edge of basketball instruction. He has coached at the prestigious Five-Star Basketball Camp and worked as a consultant at legendary Coach Morgan Wootten's summer camp. Coach Macri has assisted Coach David Thorpe at the world-renowned Pro Training Center in Clearwater , Florida and has attended numerous clinics including the critically acclaimed Point Guard College and D.C. Area Basketball Clinic. Coach Macri has a Master of Arts Degree in Theology from Fordham University and a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Theology from Loyola College in Maryland and teaches Religion to all ages at John Carroll. He and his wife Megan have one child, Allison. RICK LANDERS Coach Rick Landers is an assistant with the Varsity at John Carroll. A noted and well-respected teacher of the game, Coach Landers brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to all facets of the program at John Carroll. He has over 20 years combined experience including coaching over a decade in the ultra-competitive Baltimore Catholic League. During that time, he was the head coach at both the JV and FS levels, winning several championships, including the 2006-07 MIAA “B” JV Championship for John Carroll. Coach Landers has been associated with over 20 players who went on to earn college basketball scholarships. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Maryland - Baltimore County . He and his wife, Kathleen, live in Parkville. ROBERT GAINES Coach Robert Gaines is an assistant with the Varsity at John Carroll. He will assist in all areas of the program, bringing a diverse skill set honed from years coaching in a variety of different sports, levels, and settings. Coach Gaines has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Bucknell University. He and his wife Jennifer have four children, Thomas, Lyric, Gabriella, and Robert III. WILL ADELSBERGER Coach Will Adelsberger is an assistant with both the Varsity and Junior Varsity at John Carroll. He will assist in many areas of the program, including the strength training program and player development. Coach Adelsberger played college basketball at Division III Washington College and played high school ball at Mount St. Joseph under Coach Martin and current Gael varsity coach Pat Clatchey. Coach Adelsberger has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and works for Susquehanna Bank. He currently resides in Catonsville . |
